So, I tried to manage network packet per application because sometimes, my Akregator updates the RSS when I need a huge amount of network traffic. This is not real pain when I use network cable or on a fast internet access. But using a cellular network modem? It’s different story. The idea is using an application like Little Snitch on Mac OSX.
There was –cmd-owner option in iptables to manage network packet per application. But recently it was removed since…. It said doesnt work as expected. Well, I tried lpfw. All dependencies available at slackbuilds.org:
- libnetfilter
- nml
- libnetfilter-queue
- libnetfilter-conntrack
And then build lpfw source, just follow the accompanied README. Note that it needs ipv6 support, I re-enabled ipv6 module (remove kernel boot cmdline that disable ipv6, and /etc/modprobe.d/ipv6.conf)
EDIT 15/02/2013:
At last it didn’t help me to much. So I decided to use my traditional way, make update interval of rss news (like Kompas/Vivanews) much little longer. Or the extreme way, I kill Akregator, while I downloading.
